We are licensed by New Zealand Kennel Club (NZKC) to provide Canine Good Citizen (CGC) training and assessment. Canine Good Citizen is a national practical standard of training set by the NZKC.

Canine Good Citizen is a great option for owners who've done Canine Introduction and Practical Canines and would like to continue with a structured lesson programme. The emphasis with CGC is on how well your dog performs the activities, their steadiness and general good manners.

The Canine Good Citizen program has a number of levels of achievement: Foundation, Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Each level requires more control and discipline but the general exercises are heeling, meeting people and dogs, remaining calm in distracting or unsettling situations and being comfortable tied up. The criteria for each level are available in the club room.

There is a requirement to pass one level before proceeding to the next and your dog needs to be one year old to take the test (although can take the classes at any age).

The evaluation process is conducted by an independent judge from another club.  When you pass the grade you'll receive a certificate from NZKC.  There is a $20 NZKC assessment fee per test per dog

All the CGC exercises are prescribed by NZKC. A copy of the manual is available for purchase from the NZKC website and there is also a copy in the club rooms.

Training

We believe that we can use our brains rather than our brawn to train our dogs, without pain or force being applied. We know that behavior that is rewarded will be repeated, and therefore we work to set ourselves and our dogs up to succeed so that they can practice getting it right in order to form socially acceptable habits, and learn in a positive manner how to live their lives with us, and us with them.

Classes

Classes and events currently available can only be booked online.  We also have "Waiting list" classes in Bookwhen so if you don't see a class that suits please sign up for the wait list and then we can contact you when a class becomes available. We run classes on a 10 week term with both weekend and weeknight options.

About us

Central Allbreeds Dog Training School recently celebrated fifty years of training and is a fun, family-oriented, friendly club for all dogs (no matter what breed or mix of breeds) and their owners, promoting training with positive reinforcement techniques.

We can help you achieve the best relationship with your dog. Activities we teach include lifestyle (domestic) training, Rally-O, agility, flygility, scenting and anything else that's positive and fun that owners would like to teach their dogs to do.

Dogs need to be over 4 months old and fully vaccinated. Our only other criteria are that the training is fun, and that you both enjoy it!
